Preparing For Your Session

How to find:
MAPUA Rasa Ayurveda clinic

The clinic location is at 168 Seaton Valley Road, Mapua.

This is on a shared driveway with the Mapua Chalets and other residences. Follow the Veda Organics signs up the driveway, continuing past our gateway with #168. Continue past the shipping containers up the hill and take the left branch of the driveway. The clinic is a round yurt shaped building immediately at the top of the hill.

Please wait outside in case there is still a session in progress when you arrive.

If you have any problems finding the clinic, please call or text me on 021 124 1591.

Preparing for Bodywork Treatment

To make the most of your treatment please observe the following:

  • Avoid heavy meals 1-2 hours before treatment.

  • Avoid consuming alcohol, drugs, caffeine or smoking before treatment.

  • Wear comfortable clothing for your session. Padabhyanga, shirobhyanga and mukhabhyanga are performed fully clothed, but loose and comfortable clothing is important so that you can fully relax.

  • I will ask you a few health and safety questions before we commence treatment. This will take about 5 minutes.

  • Depending on your body, you may either feel rejuvenated or a bit tired after your session. Ensure you drink plenty of water and plan some time to rest and relax to completely absorb the benefits.

Full Body Abhyanga

Abhyanga is an oily massage! The oil is a big part of the therapeutic benefit, but it requires a little management.

  • For full body abhyanga massage, please wear underwear that can get a little oily. I try to avoid this, but a little oil is usually unavoidable!

  • At the end of the abhyanga I will remove excess hot oil with a warm towel. The oil that remains on your skin is best left on for a few hours before showering.

  • To remove oil when at home, use a washcloth when in the shower to rub your skin. After showering, have a dedicated or older towel for rubbing off any remaining oil. Do not use soap. It is also a good idea to put a little natural detergent in the drain to prevent the oil from clogging the drain.

  • Full body abhyanga massage is best avoided if you are menstruating. Please reschedule if necessary.

Shirodhara

Your hair will be saturated with oil after a shirodhara session. Here are a few suggestions of how to manage this:

  • Bring an old towel or shower cap to wrap around your head after your treatment. It is important to not let your head cool down after a shirodhara session.

  • If you are comfortable with it, allow the oil to remain on your head for 1-2 hours after the session ends.

  • When you are ready to wash your hair, start by applying shampoo to your hair before you get in the shower (dry shampoo). Rub in shampoo thoroughly before getting wet. Then wash and rinse as usual. For extra thick or long hair, two shampoos may be necessary.
